Our Story

The American Thundercats Racing Federation (ATRF) was established to introduce, develop, and govern Thundercat powerboat racing in the United States. After more than three decades of success in countries such as South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, Thundercat racing has earned a reputation as one of the world’s most exciting, affordable, and competitive forms of powerboat racing. Until now, the sport has never had a dedicated national federation in the United States.
ATRF was founded with a clear vision: to build a sustainable future for Thundercat racing in America by creating a professional organization that supports racers, manufacturers, sponsors, event promoters, and local communities. The federation serves as the national governing body for the sport, establishing standardized competition rules, promoting safety, sanctioning events, developing youth racing programs, and creating a pathway from grassroots participation to elite national competition.
The federation is led by a diverse Board of Directors representing racers, manufacturers, industry professionals, event organizers, and strategic partners. This collaborative structure ensures that every major stakeholder has a voice in shaping the future of the sport while maintaining transparency, fairness, and long-term stability.
ATRF is committed to growing motorsports through family-friendly entertainment, youth development, environmental responsibility, and partnerships with municipalities, marinas, tourism organizations, and national motorsports associations. By bringing world-class racing to American waters, the federation aims to create exciting events that drive tourism, support local economies, and inspire the next generation of racers.
As the first national organization dedicated exclusively to Thundercat racing in the United States, the American Thundercats Racing Federation is building more than a racing series—it is creating a lasting legacy for one of the fastest-growing powerboat racing disciplines in the world.
Mission: To promote, govern, and grow Thundercat powerboat racing across the United States through safe competition, fair rules, professional event management, and opportunities for racers of all ages.
Vision: To establish the United States as a premier destination for Thundercat racing, culminating in nationally recognized championships and internationally sanctioned events that unite competitors from around the world.
